Individual Counseling

Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to
accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals (ACA, 2010).

Bledsoe Counseling, LLC, combines face-to-face (Oxford, MS) and telehealth (online) counseling services for clients anywhere in Alabama and Mississippi. I provide telehealth counseling via a HIPPA-compliant video conferencing platform, and it is just as effective as in-person care and convenient and accessible.

Counseling provided by trained professionals can profoundly impact the lives of individuals, families, and communities. My therapeutic approach to counseling is a client-centered form of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy that improves current behaviors, relationships, and circumstances. During sessions, I will create a safe space to identify goals and solutions to offset personal and professional challenges and take effective control of your lives.

Individual Counseling is designed to:

Identify and achieve the client’s goals by:

  • Encouraging via supporting, listening and providing empathy

  • Equipping clients with new skills and resources

  • Empowering clients to think, feel, and behave differently

I primarily work with mature and young adults who desire to make effective changes in their lives, personally and professionally. Gleaning from years of experience, research, and teaching, I specialize in:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Personal development

  • Life-stage transitions

  • Coping skills

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship problems (e.g., family, peers, dating)

  • Communication Skills

  • Self-care and wellbeing

  • Work and life balance

  • Work stress

  • College and school stress

  • Postsecondary planning (e.g., College, Career Exploration )

Group Counseling:

  • A small group of individuals who all face similar concerns or problems

  • Groups are wonderful way to give and receive support

  • Meets once per week

  • Groups are cost effective

  • Groups enhance social skills

Supervision

Supervision

As a supervising counselor, I strive to model principles that create a friendly and supportive, yet challenging environment that will promote counselor skill development with my supervisees.

My approach to supervision is influenced by the Discrimination Model, an empirically supported model that enables a supervisor to concentrate on a supervisee’s focus areas: counseling performance skills, cognitive counseling skills, self-awareness, and professional behaviors. As your supervisor, I will fluctuate between the role of a teacher, counselor, and consultant.

  • Individual (1 supervisor; 1 supervisee) weekly sessions

  • Dyad/Triad Supervision (1 supervisor; 2 supervisees) – when appropriate

  • Group supervision – (1 supervisor; up to 8 supervisees) when appropriate

  • Assessment of counseling skills and techniques

  • Feedback on the application of theories, ethics, and differential diagnosis

  • Feedback on recorded client sessions (when feasible and appropriate)

  • Review of case notes and other documentation

  • Reassurance and support
