My work

As a counselor, clinical supervisor, and consultant, my work targets three key areas.

  • Encouraging clients by creating an environment that is supportive, non-judgmental, yet challenging; meeting clients where they are

  • Equipping clients with resources to take more effective control of their lives

  • Empowering clients to think, feel, and behave differently

Dr. Kenya Bledsoe

As a professional, wife, and mother, I recognize that life is full of changes and sometimes we all need help sorting things out. As we partner, I will help you navigate life. I will encourage you, equip with resources, empower you to meet your needs, and bring you closer to what you want to get out of life. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults.

I am a licensed professional counselor and supervising counselor with over 20 years of counseling experience. My professional background, coupled with my desire to generate access, resources, and support to individuals drives me to assist my clients with taking effective control of their lives.

In 2019, I expanded my professional counseling footprint and became a counselor educator. I will continue to leverage my skills as a researcher, professor, and consultant while providing professional volunteer service at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

On a personal note, I am human – I eat, cry, make mistakes, get things right, etc. I am a passionate person and thrive on interacting with others. My favorite pastime is spending quality time with my husband and children. I enjoy socializing with family and friends when not attending my kids' sporting events. Also, I enjoy good food, live music, dancing, and an occasional spa day. My go-to self-care activities are exercising and watching mindless TV. On the other hand, I value quiet time alone to recharge and reflect.

Biography

After graduating from Mississippi State University with a Master’s degree in counseling, I immediately started working as a school counselor. As a genuine lifelong learner, I did not waste time pursuing and completing an Educational Specialist in Counseling degree. Shortly afterward, I sought the licensed professional counselor (LPC) credential. Obtaining my LPC taught me the value of clinical supervision and the impact on counselor identity development and client treatment services.

I decided to channel my passion for counseling differently and pursue a terminal degree. In 2019, I achieved my dream of earning my Ph.D. in counseling education and supervision. As a first-generation college student, I can attest to the impact of education, access, and encouragement. As a licensed professional counselor and supervisor, I aim to provide exposure, resources, and support for my clients and associate licensed counselors.
